Frank Clayton

Multi-instrumentalist Frank Clayton is a veteran of the New York and Seattle jazz scenes—a mentoring musician with an ever-attentive and sophisticated jazz sensibility. More

Frank studied at Berklee School of Music in Boston, and the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He studied acoustic bass with Dave Holland, Cecil McBee, and percussion with Alan Dawson and Morris Goldenberg. Frank has performed at venues across the United States and Europe with a who's-who list of jazz greats including Jacki Byard, Jay Clayton, Barry Harris, Eddie Harris, Lee Konitz, Art Lande, Cecil McBee, Charles Mingus, Steve Reich, Sam Rivers and many others. Free Improvisation Ensemble

Led by Frank Clayton—explore and experience the art of making "free" music with a veteran of the definitive 1960's New York City scene. Frank emphasizes listening and brings his expertise on many styles of jazz and improvisational music to a collaborative ensemble experience.

  • Open to all levels and instruments—3 to 7 players
  • Guided rehearsals with individual attention
  • Acoustic piano, drumset and amp provided
  • Play in final performance

Benefits
This ensemble is a great experience for developing musicianship skills of listening and interacting, and considering dynamics, sound, contrast, and composition.

Student Requirements
Punctual attendance, interest in new ideas, and desire to improve.

Students supply their instrument.

$345 for ten-week session - classes meet 1.5 hours weekly.

Registration and Payments
Registration for this ensemble requires payment in full by the first meeting of a session (unless special arrangements have been made). Seats are filled on a 'first-come, first-serve' basis and cannot be assigned unless payment is received. Payments can be made by cash, check, or PayPal options (including credit card). Please note: Tuition not received in full by the first meeting of a session will incur additional $10 charges per week delinquent.
